pingstack command
Wrap any scheduled job to report failures, output and run times.
One command in front of your job
Put pingstack run -- in front of a cron job, systemd timer or scheduled task, and every run reports to a heartbeat check. The free, open-source pingstack command replaces the curl line at the end of your script.
pingstack run -- /opt/jobs/backup.sh
- The job fails: you get an alert right away, with its exit code and the last 100 lines of its output.
- The job never runs: you get an alert once it’s overdue.
- Every run is timed: the check shows how long each one took, so you can spot the backup that’s slowly getting longer.
Your job’s output passes through unchanged, and it exits with the job’s own exit code, so cron and systemd see exactly what they saw before. Routine output stays on your machine. Only failures send the last lines.
Set it up
- Install it.
brew install pingstack-io/tap/pingstackon macOS, a one-line install script on Linux, or a download for Windows. - Create a heartbeat check with your job’s schedule and save its ping URL as
PINGSTACK_PING_URL. - Wrap the job:
pingstack run -- your-command.
